This morning between 7:15-7:20 AM the first of three osprey eggs hatched!
The small chick squirmed its way out of the egg and was immediately attended by Rachel as she delicately offered it bits of fresh mackerel meat. During this first feeding, Steve was circling close by.
Ospreys lay their eggs asynchronously, meaning they do not lay their eggs all at once. Consequently, this first chick gets a head start over its siblings as it has no competition for food.
Keep an eye on the nest- the other two are coming!
